Hi, Emily, my name is Richie. I love this little saying you posted here. I would have to admit though, it took years of beating myself up, before I stopped fighting myself and learned to love myself first.
For so many of us, especially early in recovery, we always seemed to have everything backwards. For me, I felt that if everyone would have loved me a bit more, I would have loved myself. It was a dependant trap I had set up for myself, without realizing it.
To live life sober, I had to learn how to live life without alcohol.
To love life, I had to learn to love myself.
That's just life...you can't really give anything away, unless you got it first, and the things we appreciate most, are the things we've worked the hardest for.
The years of hard work, some patience and perseverence, have turned me into the person I am today. I started out as someone people stayed clear of, because I was very depressing, to a man that draws people in. I inspire people.
