Before Retiring

Dear Lord,
I pray for every alcoholic/addict that still suffers. It breaks my heart to think how many are out there feeling hopeless. May they all find their way. Please help me to stay sober and balanced. You lead I'll follow.

I love you,
Emily

  1. Dear Lord-

Thank you for providing this website and for giving Em the endurance, stamina, and love to help those of us looking for help. Allow us to be an encouragement back to her.

We are grateful for another day and we love you.

    In Jesus name, Amen.

  2. I also have to say thank you for this wonderful website & all the Emily is doing to help so many. I wake up knowing that I am one day sober & here's now Day 2. I wouldn't have made Day 1 without this blog & all of your help. Now I need to find a meeting. There are so many through AA...how do you pick. Just go to the one closest to your home? Do you go to different ones? Or always go back to the same group. I need some guidance on how to go about getting involved in meetings & getting a sponsor. Many thanks for everything.

  3. Womens meetings are great, try to find a sponsor as soon as you can. I went to like 3 meetings a day when I first got sober, it was one of the only places where I felt better. You can do it! Proud of you, proud of you, proud of you! Xo

  4. Louise - I went to the meeting closest to my house that worked timewise. I now consider it my homegroup. I went to a different meeting this past Saturday in our downtown area. It was a much larger group of people, everyone was very welcoming & nice as usual. My sponsor & I are traveling around to some different meetings just to mix it up a bit, hear some different stories, thoughts, feelings, etc. I guess it was just luck or fate or something that the 1st meeting I walked into was one at which I felt totally comfortable & relaxed in. You'll know it's right when you get there and talk with some of the people.

As far a getting a sponsor - my current sponsor happened to be running the meeting the 1st nite I went and I thought she was spunky, fun - yet serious and dedicated. I didn't even talk to her the first nite, but she is who I planned on eventually asking to be my sponsor. I went back the next nite to a meeting and she came up to me and started talking to me and asked me if I had a sponsor yet, I said no, and she said "I can be your sponsor if you want" and I said, "yes, I was getting ready to ask you - but you offered first". We have become REALLY close friends - talk at least once a day if not 2-3 times a day via e-mail, facebook, phone, etc. When getting a sponsor, you might listen at meetings for 2-4 meetings and see what some of the women have to say - maybe one of them will say something that you can truly identify with and it will just click - get to know them by talking to them before or after a meeting. I personally looked for someone with similar personality/social traits as me. We ended up being a really good match for each other. You'll know when you've found the right person to ask.

    Prayers are with you!
