Dancing Sober

When I first got into recovery I could not imagine dancing sober. I would try at home, while no one was watching, and it was like...Go Feet, Go Feet. I couldn't even get my feet to move. I wrote about it in my journal and then let it go. Then months later my neighbor invited me to go to a restaurant with dancing she goes to every Friday. She warned me it kinda had an older crowd (like people between 50-99 years old) I thought "Why not? If you can't dance in from of them it's just ego" So I went and I gave it a shot...first dance, kinda hard...I looked at my feet and thought, "Go Feet, Go Feet...get your groove on...Go Feet" Then they played the Electric Slide and it was on like Donkey Kong. I haven't had a problem dancing ever since. Go Feet!!

  1. I can completely relate to the dance thing. I, too, have thought that my dancing days are over. I have yet to try out my "sober soles", but through you, hope to try them out again. Thanks!

  2. Do you want an "ism" on sober soles?? I love that! I can either do it anonymously, do it under "learning to live" or you can e-mail me your first name...totally up to you! But that is a great one!! Thanks for sharing, Emily

  3. I have yet to dance with 18 months into sobriety. I went to a recovery conference a couple months back and they had a dj. I wasn't brave enough. A gal I was with, did it for the first time and I was happy for her. I have to be careful, certain music triggers thoughts of my old behavior and that's not a good place for my mind to be. Im a slow learner, but Im learning.

  4. I read you blog today Emily. First I have to say that I am very proud of you. I can't begin to imaging how difficult this has been for you. Second: Many of your writings brought tears to my eyes. Most because of how determined you have been and the rest because of your success and that you credit God for being with you during this process. Keep doing whatever is working for you. Love ya. Dale
